What is Zumba?
Zumba is a fitness programme in the rhythm of mainly Latin and American music combining the elements of aerobic and dancing. Its basic is formed by Latin dances, especially salsa, samba, merengue, batchata, quebradita, chacha, reggaeton, bogaloo, Latin hip hop, cumbia, but African dances, oriental elements, etc. are also danced. The beginning of the lesson (warm-up) can remind aerobic, simple steps are used for warming the body, and at the end there is stretching (cool-down) in a slower rhythm.
In the Spanish slang the word „zumbare“ means „move quickly, enjoy oneself or invite somebody to a party“. And exactly such is the philosophy of Zumba; you do not have the feeling that you are in the gym, you do not count how many exercises you will have to do. In brief, you enjoy yourself and, smiling, you enjoy yourself as at a dancing party. Doing this, however, you do exercising very effectively and burn a lot of calories. It is said that during one lesson you even burn up to 900kcal. Thanks to changing elements and steps of various dances, new muscular groups always actively participate with a new composition. However, the whole body always works.
Zumba is ideal for those who want to lose weight. The heart rate or strength and intensity always change with a new composition, which is an absolutely ideal condition just for losing weight. Definitely, you do not have to be a dancer, as everybody can master Zumba. Zumba is suitable for all age categories. Its aim is to show people that losing weight can also be fun.

What to wear?
T-shirt, top – bear in mind that you will soak everything with perspiration. Tracksuit, leggings, shorts. As a precaution certainty, take also a sweatshirt with you, which can be suitable especially in summer when it is necessary to protect the body against catching cold caused by air-conditioning. Appropriate shoes are such shoes that will allow you to turn around on tiptoe by 360°.
What to take with you?
Certainly some liquids. It is optimal to drink in advance at least by a half litre of liquids more than usually. The person who perspires more should not forget to take a towel for wiping sweat.
I am a man and never been dancing!
And what? Zumba was devised just by a man. For the Latin population (true, compared to citizens of Central Europe) dance is a more natural part of life, but why to start changing that? Women and girls will certainly appreciate the presence of men in the hall. If you are not good at something during the first lesson, do not let to be discouraged. All women in the hall around you were also sometimes at their first lesson and they were not good at that either.
I have a few kilos in excess!
Take a comfortable cloth and be brave and go! If your excess weight is really considerable, consult everything with your doctor first. Some dances may overload joints significantly. If you want to try Zumba, go for the lesson, but listen to your body. People with excess weight should avoid especially jumping (quebradita, samba, calypso, africa). Steps, jumps – adjust their intensity according to your own feelings. If your pulse rate increases during the lesson and you do not feel comfortably, so simply reduce your effort. For example, it is enough to leave out movements by hands and reduce the extent of steps, and you will immediately take some burden off your body. It is important to do what you like and what is pleasant for you.
